HELP US SAVE OUR GIRL THURSDAY!
This is the story of our beautiful 3 month old panther girl, Thursday, and how we are desperately trying to save her life-
On Wednesday 11/7 LYFF was contacted by a local shelter and agreed to take in a kitten that needed rescue. Close to closing time a shelter employee asked us if we could also take in a single black kitten that came in. If LYFF wasnt able to take her, she would be euthanized. How could we say no??? When we recieved the kittens on Wednesday evening it was clear that there was something wrong with this gorgeous panther girl. Her sides were concave! There was nothing there and her chest cavity seemed distended. She was also breathing a little heavier than a normal kitty. So on Thursday to the vet she went! After x-rays it was immediately apparent that she has a diaphramatic hernia that needs surgical repair. The first vet determined that the surgery should be preformed by a specialist and that the hernia could either be the result of trauma or she could have been born with this problem. On Friday we brought her for a second opinion and this vet also recommended a specialist. So to the specialist we go! The specialist could fit us in on Monday and did repeat x-rays to get some more information. Her left lung is compromised which is what is causing her abnormal breathing. Because of this, time is of the essense. This surgery will be extensive and requires manipulation of many organs in order to place them back where they belong and the hole will most likely require mesh to close properly. The estimate for this life-saving surgery is $4,000. We have $1,500 set aside in our Emergency Medical Fund but we need help to raise the rest to save this sweet girl. The specialist is confident that this surgery will allow her to live a long happy life, so we feel that we have to try.
Background about LYFF (Love Your Feral Felines)-
LYFF is a non-profit, all volunteer organization that operates solely on donations. Founded in 2011 our Barn Cat Program has saved thousands of feral cats from euthanisia by placing these deserving and fully vetted felines in approved barn homes. In May 2017 LYFF branched out and started a Foster & Adoption Program saving cats and kittens from high-kill shelters where they would otherwise be euthanized. Since the program's inception last year over 700 cats and kittens have been saved. LYFF is devoted to every cat and kitten brought into their care.
