Hello, my name is Ray Thompson, and I am raising funds for our family's cat, Thunder, who is suffering from advanced kidney failure.
Thunder is a playful, water obsessed, 3yr old cat, and he loves to be in the shower. He screams and yells as soon as the word "shower" is spoken near him, and immediately runs to the bathroom and leaps into the tub. If you let him, he happily joins you in the shower, playing in the water. He's like a little otter with his dense and fluffy fur - it just rolls right off him! Thunder and his brother, Cirrus, have been in our family since the moment they were born in March 2022.
Tragically, Thunder needs help. Recently he stopped eating, stopped grooming his fur, and struggled to muster the energy to play like he usually would. When mom took him to the vet, that's when she found out he has advanced kidney failure. We don't know how long he has left to live or what our treatment options are. I am making this fundraiser on behalf of my mom, Andrea Cox, who would give anything for our beloved pets.
In order for my mom to figure out how to help Thunder, she needs financial help. There are a variety of testing options to be done first of all, and once we are able to afford those tests, we can determine a treatment plan and evaluate our options. As we have tests completed and more information on his condition, our goal will be updated to cover the costs of his ongoing treatment. Our goal will be set to $1200 to start. Below I will break down that cost and what our plan is to help Thunder.
What tests we want to do:
- A test to determine if the cause of thunder's kidney failure is due to cancer, toxins, a genetic defect, or something else. This test is $260.
- An ultrasound to determine how far advanced his kidney failure is. This test is $500.
Dietary changes we can make to help Thunder's health:
- We can feed Thunder the Hills Science Kidney Care Formula wet food for cats. A case of 24 cans is around $65.
- We can also give him an Omega-3 supplement for cats, which will help his digestion and his kidney health. It will also help his fur and skin, which currently has large white flakes throughout due to skin problems. One bottle of these supplements will be about $15.
Additional steps we can take:
- We can give Thunder intravenous fluids 2x per week to prevent dehydration. A kit for at-home fluid therapy lasts 1 month and is around $30 on it's own.
- We can put him on a monthly care plan with our current vet which will cover any future visit fees (that fee just to be seen by a vet), any bloodwork or urine testing, X-rays if ever needed, teeth cleaning if needed, and the IV fluids and supplies for fluid therapy. This does not cover the ultrasound or the costs of medications, but will help my mom keep an eye on his overall health. This plan is $180/ month.
Altogether, the cost of the 2 tests, the food and supplements, and one month of IV fluids is $870. If Mom is able to afford to add Thunder to the monthly vet plan, the cost of IV fluids is included. With the cost of the tests, the food and supplements, and 2 months of the monthly vet care plan, that brings our total to our current goal of $1200.
We want to save Thunder and let him enjoy his showers and the company of his loving family for as long as possible. We need help to do so. Times are tough I know, so any help would be appreciated. If you can't donate, we would love if you could share our fundraiser.
With love and appreciation,
Ray Thompson.
