The purpose of this fundraiser is to raise money to pay for treatment for my stage three cervical cancer.


Hello everyone,

 
My name is Thera and I’m a 33 year old mother of a twelve year old daughter. On January 4th, 2019, I was diagnosed with stage 3 Cervical cancer in my birth country, Grenada.

Prior to this I had endured excruciating pain and deteriorating health and on hospital visits had been misdiagnosed and treated with antibiotics or morphine.

 
With help and support from my family, I was immediately sent to Trinidad and Tobago where I had a successful radical hysterectomy, which cost $ 25,000.00 USD, paid by my family.

Having already completed 3 courses of chemotherapy, I now need at least three months of chemotherapy and radiation treatment. My entire life has been transformed. I was a court clerk at the Grenada Court House but am now unable to work or care for my young daughter. I’m asking for your financial support towards the treatment and therapies needed to save my life.

Grenada has a population of 39,448 women ages 15 years and older who are at risk of developing cervical cancer. Data is not yet available on the HPV burden in the general population of Grenada. However, in the Caribbean, the region Grenada belongs to, about 15.8% of women in the general population are estimated to harbour cervical HPV- 16/18 infection at a given time, and 60.2% of invasive cervical cancers are attributed to HPVs 16 or 18 (ICO/IARC Information Centre on HPV and Cancer.
