In 2002-2003, filmmakers Jacques and Rodolphe Rutman travelled across the United States to interview veterans of the U.S. 1st Infantry Division for the documentary Big Red Omaha. More than 50 hours of interviews were recorded, but only a small portion of this material could be included in the final film.

Today, all of the veterans who were interviewed have passed away, making these recordings an irreplaceable historical archive. The original tapes are safely preserved in the archives of REMEMBER, a French non-profit association dedicated to preserving the memory of the Second World War.

We are raising funds to professionally digitise these tapes before the technology needed to read them becomes increasingly difficult and expensive to access. Once digitised, the interviews will be catalogued and donated to the U.S. National Archives, ensuring that the stories of these veterans remain available to researchers, historians, families, and future generations.
