Save The World's Largest Goose

Our father, David C. Jackson, was an artist in Kansas City, Missouri. Among his many works of art, he was known for creating “Maxie”, The World’s Largest Goose – a 40-foot tall steel and fiberglass statue with a 65-foot wingspan. The sculpture was commissioned by the small town of Sumner, Missouri, in 1974 to commemorate their status as the “Wild Goose Capitol of the World”. Maxie is named after Branta Canadensis Maxima, the scientific name for Giant Canada Geese.
Maxie has become an inconic roadside attraction and has been seen in numerous articles over the years, as well as a feature film titled "Different Flowers". Maxie has touched the lives of many families over the years, as they have posed for photos in front of the World’s Largest Goose!
Unfortunately, our Dad passed away in 2013 and we want to preserve his legacy as the creator of Maxie. After 46 years, the sculpture is now in need of major repairs and restoration and there are not enough funds available in the community where Maxie is located.
My sister and I, in conjunction with the Sumner Community Betterment organization and in affiliation with Chariton County Community Foundation, now have 501(c)3 status to begin major fundraising efforts including applying for grants and seeking large corporate donations. We are also accepting donations of any amount here on Go Fund Me to provide a convenient way for everyone to be a part of this journey to save Maxie.
Your support is deeply appreciated, not only for what it means to me and my sister as we honor our father and his life's work - but also for the town of Sumner, MO, which seeks to keep this unique piece of Americana and promote wildlife conservation with the town's immediate proximity to the Swan Lake National Wildlife Refuge.
