Save The Work of Emma Curtis Hopkins (1849-1925)
Emma Curtis Hopkins (September 2, 1849 – April 8, 1925) was an American spiritual teacher and leader who is considered by many to be the founder of the New Thought movement. Emma was the first woman to ordain others as ministers in modern times and twenty of the twenty-two students in the first graduating class of the Emma Curtis Hopkins College of Christian Science were also women with other notable graduates being; Charles and Myrtle Fillmore, Louisa May Alcott, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Annie Rix Militz, Emily Cady, (whose Course of Twelve Lessons in Practical Christianity is now considered one of the core texts on Unity Church teachings) Ernest Holmes, and many other influential people who became the Founders of Thought.
Despite her influence, by the 1990s Hopkins had largely been forgotten even within the New Thought movement, however, her strength as a founding woman, faith, and dedication to the New Thought movement guided me to study her works over the last 20 years. This, in turn, inspired me to save her work through my publishing company, Wise Women Press in which I have published 11 of Emma Curtis Hopkins's works as well as 23 of her Bible Interpretation Series, which were originally published in the Inter Ocean Newspaper in Chicago in the late 1800’s.
It is essential to preserve the history of outstanding people such as Emma so that future generations can not only look back at where they came from but can learn and be inspired by those who stepped out into the world and made a significant difference.
It normally takes a large team to research, find, organize, and publish the extent of work that Emma has contributed. However, over the last 15 years, I have taken upon this responsibility on my own spending over $20,000 of my own funds to ensure her work will not be lost in time. This included formatting with ISBN numbers and making them available to everyone through Amazon and Kindle.
However, with so much of Emma’s work, such as missing Bible lessons and letters dated up to 1923, still needing to be located at places such as the New Thought and Unity Archives, formatted, and published, I am here today to humbly seek your support in ensuring her work and others are not forgotten.
100% of your generous support will go directly towards the following:
● Publishing of the last four Bible Series to conclude the set of 27 books in the series - currently being formatted with covers being created.
● Updating and Reprinting of how to use Bible Interpretations - Original copy was done in the 1940s which is outdated and difficult for the reader to find passages.
● Travel expenses for myself to give a presentation on Emma Curtis Hopkins at the Parliament of World Religions in August 2023 in Chicago. The vision of the Parliament of the World’s Religions is of a just, peaceful, and sustainable world in which: religious and spiritual communities live in harmony and contribute to a better world from their riches of wisdom and compassion; Religious and cultural fears and hatreds are replaced with understanding and respect. People everywhere come to know and care for their neighbors.
It has been an honor to bring Emma’s work to life for future generations to enjoy, however, at 80 years old myself now, I can no longer work as a painter full-time to fund the publishing expenses as I once did, nor can I afford to continue this work on my own. It is such a blessing to have people like yourselvesto help in the preservation of such outstanding work for without your support, people like Emma Curtis Hopkins would slip through the cracks and be lost to time never able to inspire new generations again.
I thank you wholeheartedly for your support and ask that you please share my campaign with your family, friends, neighbors, coworkers, and spiritual groups to help spread the word about saving an invaluable woman of history.
God bless you all!
