I am in Malawi in the village of Lumemo where I have financially supported putting a roof on the school. If the village builds the school the government will fund 8 teachers.
I am with Chief Katandura and most of the people from the village. We are talking about the urgent need for other initiatives for the community but there are no finances for these projects.
Currently, the only way from Rumbe (a small town) to the village is to roll up your pant-legs (in my case don't bother because its up to my waste) and cross a very cold and somewhat swift river.
We are speaking about priorities at the village meeting and it has been decided the most urgent is building a walk bridge across the river,not only for convenience but for Lumemo people to get sickness and emergency health care in Rumphi
We have measured the crossing, identified the material and engaged a welder. In total the bridge building is estimated at $8000. CAD. I have made the goal at $10000. CAD to ensure completion, in the event of under estimating materials and welder labour. Other than the welding, the labour will be done by the women and men in the village. Please help me get the bridge in place for this very greatful community.
