Riding for Takayna
I'm riding my bike from the steps of the Opera House to the summit of Mt Kosciusko. Sydney to Summit is a 680km unsupported ride, mainly off-road, with 13 000 vertical metres of climbing - that’s almost 2 Mt Everests!
One goal of my ride is to raise money to support the Bob Brown Foundation campaign to have Takayna / Tarkine protected as a World Heritage listed National Park, returned to Aboriginal ownership.
For me, fundraising for this cause is a chance to raise awareness about the fragility of Country and the need to fight to preserve these precious places.
Takayna is Australia’s largest temperate rainforest and the second-largest temperate rainforest in the world. One of Earth’s last great wild places, it deserves secure, permanent protection.
You can follow my ride here and I'll try to keep updated on our instagram stories. I am planning to head off from the Sydney Opera House on 21 April, and arrive at the top of Kosci on 29 April. If anyone wants to join me for part or all of the ride, I would welcome the company!
Thanks for your support,
Matt
