Hello, and thank you for taking the time to read my story.
However, this isn’t about me, it’s about the 300.000 stray dogs in Bangalore, that live without shelter, food, love, and care.
Who I am and what I do.
My name is Kelly, I’m a German Animal Activist & Rescuer, and I’ve been working in Bangalore (India) since 2009. My work includes feeding stray dogs, supporting birth control programmes, dog rescues (injured dogs due to accidents or abuse), driving awareness on social media, and running an animal rescue group called D.A.R.T (Daring Animal Rescue Team).
Why it’s important.
A lot of people might think helping street animals isn’t necessary or just a drop in the ocean, but simply put, these people are wrong.
There are around 300.000 stray dogs in Bangalore that suffer day in, day out. They require care and attention. The only way to reduce this number is an efficient sterilization programme, which the government has failed to provide. No birth control means more stray dogs, which means more hunger, more accidents, more rabies, and more suffering.
What makes this even sadder is the fact that these dogs are neglected, unwanted, hated, ignored and most importantly misunderstood.
What these animals go through is unthinkable and I’ve seen the most horrific sights in the last 11 years. These stories are anchored deep in my heart, and I can tell you that animals suffer, feel pain and long for love as much as we do.
Why I need your help.
For 11 years I’ve been feeding and rescuing dogs and cats on the streets of Bangalore myself, without any support from organizations or the Indian government. As an independent animal activist, the number of rescues, sterilizations & vaccinations have increased to the point that I’m not sure how much longer I can keep it up on my own.
Asking for help has never been my strength, but it is now, or never, and these animals need me. With your support, I can continue providing food, cover medical expenses and sterilizations.
Together, we can be the difference.
Since I started, I’ve seen that increased awareness has led to more understanding and compassion for stray dogs.
That is a start, but there’s still so much more to be done.
With your financial support we will be able to help more animals in need.
My love and care for animals, especially for dogs, plays a significant role in my life. My idealistic wish to see all animals happy may be utopia, but being able to help animals in need and change people’s perspective is at least a tiny step towards a better future for both mankind and animals.
Thank you so much for your help!
