Save the Sterlings

Dear Edmonton Theatre Community Members,

Thank you to everyone who participated in the The Elizabeth Sterling Haynes Awards this year!

We have a lot to be proud of and a lot of things we’d like to improve on. The event and the Sterlings Committee is an ever changing and growing entity.

This year we find ourselves in a precarious financial situation. Lower ticket prices coupled with fewer sponsors than we’ve had in the past, as well as some unanticipated costs, have The Sterlings facing a shortfall of $3485.

This deficit has hindered our ability to settle outstanding invoices and meet our obligations. Although this deficit may seem modest, it has a profound impact on an organization that relies entirely on the dedication of volunteer artists and receives no operational funding. This financial strain threatens our ability to plan for and put on next year’s show.

We are reaching out to our theatre community with a Save-the-Sterlings GoFundMe campaign. As artists we all do what we love for not very much money (sometimes for no money). But if a whole bunch of us each makes a small donation, we can bridge this financial gap. Hell, if 174 of us donates $20, that would do it!

Every contribution, no matter the size, is sincerely appreciated. Please spread the word and share our message with others who value the arts.

As Elizabeth Sterling Haynes often reminded us, “You do not build a theatre with bricks. You build it with people.”
