Save the Starfire

Rob Goff has spent years building a reputation for bringing the best in food and hospitality to the Pee Dee. From country cooking to barbecue and steaks, the restaurant business has been his life.

Thanks to a worldwide pandemic, the last few years haven't been kind to Goff and others in the food and beverage industry. Still, Goff perservered and with COVID on its way out, he entered into a new venture, purchasing a Florence favorite, the Starfire Grill on West Palmetto St.

But just as things were starting to look up, tragedy struck again last week when a fire broke out in the middle of the night inside Starfire and ripped through the restaurant's building, leaving it in shambles.

Florence firefighters had the fire under control about 45 minutes after arriving, but the business was destroyed. It will take extensive repairs to get things back up and running.

In the meantime, Goff finds himself out of business for at least several months with a huge repair bill looming. Of course he has insurance, but that will only begin to pay for all that's needed to rebuild and reopen.
