Even Firefighters and Paramedics need help too sometimes....
Our firefighters and paramedics are trying to save our community’s 1882 railroad depot from demolition. We are the Volunteer First Responders for the Countyline Fire Department of Sentinel, Arizona. We don’t have a fire station or engine house, so we are building them on property donated to us. We will honor Arizona’s railroad history by designing buildings that look like railroad structures from our area, and our fire station property will become a community heritage park. The first step is moving our 1882 railroad depot to our property so we can restore it. If we can’t move it by February 2020, it will be torn down. The cost for moving the depot is $25,000. We also need $10,000 for a foundation for it to be moved onto. The depot is unique and is the last surviving telegraph office from the 1880s built by the Southern Pacific Railroad, and one of the oldest depots in Arizona. Once restored, the depot can be added to the National Register of Historic Places and help bring tourism and visitors to our town. Our fire station property and heritage park will be a gathering place for families and friends.

We are a community with a big heart! Please help us save our depot for our future!

Some great Folks have already stepped up to help.
The Union Pacific Railroad would like to donate $5,000 to our worthy cause.
An Architectural Historian and draftsman from California donated countless hours and services to produce a historic report for us, find historic photos, prepare the National Register nomination and even help us design our Heritage Park. He has offered that the first fifty people to donate $200 or more will be mailed a vintage styled blueprint that he drew to help us raise funds as a thank you.

Built in July 1882 by the Southern Pacific Railroad, it was a two-room telegraph office. In 1895 it was moved and expanded into a passenger depot. Although relocated again in 1960, the Depot is eligible for Nomination to the National Register of Historic Places under Criteria A for its unique railroad related transportation history and Criteria C for its architectural significance as the only surviving example of Southern Pacific railroad’s earliest two-room telegraph offices.
Currently, the Sentinel Depot is threatened with demolition and we are raising $35,000 to move the depot and put it on a new foundation on land that was donated to our community’s volunteer fire department. The Countyline Fire Department is a 501C3 non-profit. Once the depot is out of danger, we will begin a separate Fundraising Campaign for its restoration as a Museum. Our long range goal is to build replica railroad buildings to house our fire trucks, equipment and housing for our volunteer firemen. It will create a Heritage Park that celebrates the proud railroad heritage of Arizona!

The Countyline Fire Department Inc provides quality Emergency Medical Services, firefighting and public education to the citizens and visitors in Eastern Yuma; and West Central Maricopa Counties, in Arizona.
