“Every day be thankful for the nights that turn into mornings, friends that turn into family and dreams that turn into reality.” -- Granger Smith. Please don’t let rent and the pandemic be the downfall of SDBCC’s team and members; I beg you to help make SDBCC’s dreams become a reality.
For every time you share and for every dollar you donate, you are giving a chance for SDBCC to stay open just a little longer.
PLEASE HELP KEEP OUR LOCAL BADMINTON TRAINING FACILITY OPEN! San Diego Badminton Center Court is a place for people who share the love of badminton to convene. It is also a site where badminton players can gain expert badminton training and advice from the best in the world. One can either play badminton with their friends and family (please keep in mind that there are only a handful of badminton gyms in San Diego) or participate in intensive badminton training--coached by the best coaches with years of experience in the sport. However, SDBCC is facing potential closure because the facility owners are not receiving any income and still have to pay rent. The San Diego Badminton Center Court gym has become a second home to many people. I have played, trained, and practiced at this gym since the very beginning of its creation and it will torment me to see my second home go. To help keep this wonderful gym open, I beg you to please help support SDBCC by sharing this go-fund-me with as many people as possible as well as donating. Any donation counts and every cent is valuable to keeping SDBCC open.

All About SDBCC and Its Benefits
San Diego Badminton Center Court (SDBCC) is a wonderful gym in which families and friends can all gather together and share their passion for badminton. Many of the people of the community see this badminton gym as a site to gather together and share their love of the sport. SDBCC is a haven where people can cast away all their "real-life" worries for a moment and get a chance to connect with others who also take part in the badminton sport. SDBCC is what an ideal community badminton club looks like.
Aside from being a friendly badminton club, SDBCC also offers excellent training. Before the pandemic, SDBCC had been providing top-notch badminton training for children, teens, and adults. The facility and the coaches have brought up the level of countless players and led them to win several medals in many categories at competitions. Without SDBCC, many students will not get to improve their badminton skills as well as discipline.
The coaches at SDBCC are also very dedicated to their profession and supportive of their students. They help their players improve their stamina, speed, strength, and most importantly--their character. The head coach is coach Halim Haryanto. Coach Halim is a former world champion and has won many other titles in the men’s doubles division. His experience in the sport helps many of the players grow. Coach Halim’s wisdom is invaluable to the training program and the students.
The Humble Beginning
I also have a very personal connection to SDBCC myself. I was first introduced to badminton when I was six years old (about nine years ago). I was taught by my parents and I had to move around to find places that I could practice badminton in. I have played at middle school gyms, rooms in recreation centers, and even playgrounds. Finding an actual court to train on was incredibly difficult. The only places with courts were the middle school gyms, but the floor was often slippery. Moreover, there was also a thirty-minute time limit for every court and every training session felt rushed. In essence, I practiced badminton wherever I could but I had to search for a good training ground.
Additionally, there were only a handful of prominent badminton players from San Diego at the time. When players competed at tournaments, most of them were from Los Angeles and Northern California. This is mostly due to the fact that there weren’t much proper training facilities and coaches around.
Creation of SDBCC
When SDBCC was created, many opportunities for all sorts of people opened up. A badminton training program and facility helps prevent kids from being influenced in unpleasant ways. Badminton training helps keep kids busy and healthy at the same time. Training helps players improve their character, attitude, and gives them a sense of belonging. SDBCC has helped bring up the overall standard of San Diego badminton too. The San Diego Badminton Center Court gym has also provided people ample opportunities. For instance, players could train with others that were much better than them and some players were also offered a sponsorship. I am tremendously grateful for the opportunities that have been granted to me and I am sure that others are too. I know that we all wish that even more people will get to enjoy these perks as well.
The Present
As of right now, my family and I are training at a local community park at about five a.m. in the morning (to make it easier to practice social distancing and lessen the chance of getting infected). However, competitive badminton is a sport that is meant to be played indoors. We are doing the best we can to maintain our badminton skills and stamina, but without a proper training facility, it will be very hard for us to get any better.
However, I am not the only one who will be facing trouble . My fellow teammates and the other members who routinely play at SDBCC will have to relocate. Two of my close friends may have to move because their father is the head coach. Furthermore, SDBCC staff and coaches will have to find another badminton gym to teach players--or be forced to give up their profession altogether. Essentially, unless we are able to raise the funds, the badminton team that has been painstakingly built at SDBCC over the course of three years will all be lost in vain.
The Plea
Like too many other businesses during this pandemic, our community badminton club is facing potential closure (like forever closure). Due to the recent restrictions regarding health and safety, the San Diego Badminton Center Court business is not doing so well. SDBCC has been forced to temporarily close, so there is no income. What’s worse is that rent still has to be paid. SDBCC has fallen into debt and--without your help--will soon have to close down for good. I know that this is an extremely long piece of writing and if all of the above still has not convinced you to share and donate, I hope this quote does: “Every day be thankful for the nights that turn into mornings, friends that turn into family and dreams that turn into reality.” -- Granger Smith. Please don’t let rent and the pandemic be the downfall of SDBCC; I beg you to help make SDBCC’s dreams become a reality.
