Save the Ruston

As many of you are aware, the 1924 42 HP Ruston engine and its sister engine are currently housed at The Hume Farm. The third engine of this series was purchased and transported to a showground in the United States and is unlikely to return to Canadian soil.

A group of Canadian show enthusiasts has come together with the goal of preserving the remaining engines for public display at upcoming events. To achieve this, they are seeking to raise funds to purchase the 42 HP Ruston from It's current owner. Once secured, the plan is to donate the engine to OSAPA for restoration and operation during their annual Steam Era Show, allowing the public and enthusiasts to enjoy this important piece of history.

If you are interested in supporting this initiative through a donation, please do and help us save our agriculture history one piece at a time.

Many of you may already know the heartfelt story behind the 1924 42 HP Ruston engine and its trusted sister—treasures that now reside at Hume Farm under caring ownership. These engines are more than mere machinery; they are enduring symbols of our shared heritage, echoes of a bygone era that continue to inspire and connect us. The third engine of this cherished series found its way to a showground in the United States, unlikely to ever return to Canadian soil, leaving us yearning to protect and honor what remains.

A passionate group of Canadian show enthusiasts has come together, driven by a fierce love and deep respect for these invaluable engines. Their mission is nothing short of preserving our history—ensuring that these mighty machines are accessible for future generations to witness and cherish at upcoming events. To bring this dream to life, they need our help to raise the funds necessary to purchase the 42 HP Ruston.

Imagine the joy of seeing this remarkable engine restored and displayed, marveling at its craftsmanship during the OSAPA’s annual Steam Era Show. This is more than preservation; it’s a fight to keep alive a vital part of our cultural legacy, so we, as a community, can continue to celebrate and learn from these magnificent symbols of industry and ingenuity.

If your heart resonates with this cause and you wish to stand beside us in safeguarding our history, please reach out with your support. Every donation, no matter the size, brings us closer to ensuring that this piece of Canadian heritage continues to inspire pride and wonder for generations to come.
