The first week of June we began with a contractor to add a second story to our 1950’s built home. Unfortunately, the contractor has turned out to be a dud. They have blown thru 35% of the budget, left materials that they were given funds to pay for with unpaid balances, and the little work they did complete is totally bogus. The trouble began back in June when the RMO instructed his team to dump four wheelbarrows of clay brick in with cement of a new foundation pour. He also cut the staircase completely wrong (against code and not following the plans), main structural beams they put up incorrectly and cut too short which cuts the integrity of the support. They skipped over doing the rest of the footing/foundation work to support the second story- which they started framing incorrectly too quickly so they could show some work advancements to ask for more money. They stripped out all electrical too quickly so they could hit us with a change order for all new electrical downstairs. And just to add to the mess, they took windows, outlets, lights, doors, and our flooring to Mexico without permission.
No work has been done in two months while the contractor held us hostage and demanded more money for “cash flow” ( which is totally illegal). We finally had enough after a second attempt at a meeting to try and find a way to move forward. The meeting was a train wreck, the contractor was abrasive and rude and unwilling to provide any clarity as to where he has spent $56,500 which is certainly not present in the home. He tried to redo the paperwork to require 80% upfront. They have officially been terminated as of 8/29,  however that leaves us without all those funds, bills to pay that the contractor should have paid with the money given but didn’t, a battle to get the permits rights, and worst of all trying to figure out how to get our completely demolished house back together. We have no roof, no electrical, missing walls and windows, and all with less and less time before the rain comes.
Currently there are six of us living in an RV (kids ages 6.5, 5, 2.5, and 8 mos) - which originally was supposed to be 6-8 months yet now who knows how long that will actually be now.
It is a hard pill to swallow to ask for help and one that we don’t take lightly but I am afraid our options are wading. On top of the construction nightmare the company, I (Mindy) was working for shut down suddenly in July leaving our family without income. David, once Marine tanker turned stay at home dad, is a disabled veteran that is still manning our own troops, while I continually search for a new role.
I feel silly asking for help and even worse asking for monetary help but here goes nothing.
Any little bit helps and we are sincerely grateful to those just even reading about our plight.

Any funds collected will go toward the rebuilding of our home.
