Hello everyone
I hope it’s ok to share this here.
I’m involved with local hedgehog rescue and conservation work, and over the last few years we’ve seen an alarming decline in hedgehog numbers in Lincolnshire, attributed to habitat loss, and due to an increase in housing construction projects and new roads, as a result … diminished safe food and water sources.
I volunteer at Andrews Hedgehog Hospital where caring for hedgehogs has become that have been found injured, underweight, or displaced locally. Some only need short-term help before being released, while others require longer rehabilitation and round-the-clock care.
Alongside the hands-on rescue work, we’re also working with the community (including schools and neighbours) to create “hedgehog-friendly” spaces, things like safe garden access, simple feeding stations, and connected wildlife corridors.
A few people have asked how they can help, so we’ve recently set up a short term hedgehog sponsorship option. It helps cover food, medication, heating, and veterinary care, and also supports the wider conservation work. There’s absolutely no pressure, even sharing advice or making gardens more hedgehog-friendly makes a difference.
We are also looking to find a bigger premises as the intake of patients often exceeds out capacity. This however also comes at a cost. Thank you for reading, and for supporting our local wildlife
