We have done many gofundme appeals over the years to help individual cats, and now we have to do one to save our beloved shelter. Without a significant infusion of money and fast, the doors to the Pet Refuge may close forever.
As we see the economic and supply difficulties both within the animal rescue world and beyond, especially over the last two years, first we want to thank you for all of your support.
We are one of the largest cat shelters in Rhode Island. We currently have 37 kittens in residence and 100+ cats of all ages waiting for their forever homes. Included in this number are about 30 resident cats who have lived at the shelter for several years and may never be adopted because of age, temperament, or other special need. And we want to make sure that every cat at Pet Refuge has a home with us until they get a forever home, or for their entire lives if they don’t.
We want to be able to help cats like the six cats who were abandoned in an apartment in Central Falls. We took in all of them and found them homes.
Prada was also found abandoned in an apartment. She was just adopted a few months ago to her forever home!
And Kiwi, who gave birth to her three kittens in a foster home. The entire family is now at the Pet Refuge where mommy is looking after the kittens until they can be adopted.
Being no kill, our medical bills can often add up because we treat conditions that can be treated. We do not euthanize for space or for treatable medical conditions. Being an independent 501(c)(3) means that we do not receive any state, municipal or federal support for our work. Everything we do is because of the generosity of our supporters.
And we need you now more than ever. Our funds are critically low. We get calls nearly every day from people who have to surrender their beloved animals due to their own displacement in their circumstances. We want to keep our doors open to continue to take in these cats and kittens, often the ones that other shelters will not or can not take. We want to continue to give these cats a refuge -a safe place where they can wait for a home. We truly are a refuge and are often the place of last resort.
Can you help us replenish our funds so that we can continue our important work? Every donation matters and no amount is too small.
Please send whatever you can. Our important rescue work continues because of your generosity.
Thank you from the staff, volunteers, board, and most importantly, the cats of Pet Refuge.
