SAVE THE MANAPUA MAN

This morning I woke up to the fire department hosing down my next door neighbor's manapua van. They are a very kind and humble family of Chinese immigrants that have been very sweet to me in my time living next door to them and oftentimes when I bring people over they recognize the truck and say how nice he is and how good the food is. He takes the van out every day and spends a lot of his time at home doing his own repairs to keep her going. His wife works every day except Saturdays which he dedicates to cleaning and maintaining their home. As far as I know he has been running his business for about 20 years. They have two children, one in high school and one away at college in California. I recently had a conversation with his wife about how expensive her daughter's college education is and how difficult it is for her emotionally to be away from home but they are committed to helping her live her dreams of becoming a doctor of psychology, and she is committed to finishing her education so she can secure a good job and take care of her family. When I went outside to see what was going on his wife was crying and trying to call her cousin whose husband just passed away because they no longer have the money to fly out for the funeral this upcoming week. PLEASE KOKUA! Times are hard enough as is in the midst of a global pandemic and trifling political atmosphere so I am calling for COMMUNITY CARE to step in and support our neighbors and community members in this very difficult and uncertain time!
