**** THE LOVE SHACK NEEDS ITS VILLAGE!!!***
2016 has truly been the year of murphy's Law. For every good thing I have accomplished, six things went wrong to get there. I managed to pull over sixty dogs off the euthanasia lists at various shelters, mostly Gwinnett County, Georgia. Almost every one of those dogs went over their expected pledge money amounts. For those who don't know what that means, most shelters have a volunteer Facebook page that list dogs in danger. and people pledge amounts to each dog if pulled by a non profit rescue organization. When the dog is rescued, people are supposed to pay their pledges. As a rescue, you pay the vet, boarding and transport charges as they are incurred, regardless of pledge totals or if they have been honored. There is not any way to enforce payment of pledges. It is truly the honor system. For this year alone, there are several thousand dollars in unpaid pledges to my rescue. The bills still need to get paid. This year was the first time I took on a lot of medical cases. I never realized these dogs sit in shelters waiting for someone to help, suffering from gunshot wounds, broken bones, dislocated limbs, burning skin infections.... The list goes on. I have been fortunate enough in my lifetime to not have lived anywhere that would allow an animal to suffer for days on end. Remember how mad you were waiting in the ER for two hours? Imagine waiting two weeks. In a jail cell. Not knowing if help would ever come. I don't regret anything I did to get them out of there, despite the financial chaos it incurred.
The entire second half of this year focused on purchasing the property, house and buildings next door to expand operations. I was offered an incredible deal, it just required s 20 percent deposit, payable in two lump sums spaced four months apart. To generate the funds for this, a number of fundraisers were planned, all within specific budget guidelines. The first deposit has been made, the second... Well, that's the problem. There were two major fundraisers planned, that should have taken care of the deposit. Then a number of smaller ones, just as insurance and to generate some more funds for work that needs to be done. . The organization that was assisting me in the planning and execution of the major fundraisers has informed me that they don't have time to do it anymore. Several of the smaller ones have been cancelled as well because, well, because life happens. All I have left is a small adoption event/yard sale on October 29. I need to raise at least $7,500 by the end of the year or I will default on my contract on the new place. I will lose it before I ever get to utilize it.
The thing is, nobody has the kind of time it takes to plan these events. As much as I
Need to help my own rescue, I am I currently putting in 17-20 hours a day to keep this place running. I wish I was exaggerating, but I'm not. I cannot and will not let these dogs go without everything they need. I just can't even begin to organize a fundraiser.
THIS IS WHERE THE VILLAGE COMES IN. I am asking people to commit to raising a small dollar amount to donate. You can do
that any way you choose, or I can provide suggestions. I would ask
People to pledge an amount, similar to how money is pledged on the dogs for rescue. Then you would have until December 15 to raise that amount. I cannot access my Facebook messages on my
Personal page right now and probably won't be able to
Anytime soon. Messages can be left on the love shack dog rescue page or in the comments section of this post. If you offer to help, please commit to it. If 75 people just raise $100 each, we are totally good. If I can't raise the money, the new place is gone. The entire structure of this organization now revolves around both properties. If one goes, they both go. It never occurred to me that things would end up like this. I don't count on people much in my
Personal life. It never really occurred to me that people don't take commitments to a non profit seriously, whether it's a ten dollar pledge on a dog or a larger donation or promise of some sort. Well, okay, now I know. And now I need my village. Or all these dogs will be homeless once again.
I will add to this post tomorrow. I need to get a couple hours of sleep. Thank you for reading this, and please don't forget to share. Please post questions directly on this thread.
