UPDATE!!!! 12/8/25 4:51PM
GOAL REACHED!! DTE HAS BEEN PAID!!
Because of your generosity, compassion, and quick action, we are grateful to share that we have officially reached our fundraising goal and met the deadline to pay DTE. This is an extraordinary relief, and it would not have been possible without each and every one of you who stepped forward to help.
We are deeply thankful for your contributions, your shares, your encouragement, and your trust. Please know that your help made a direct impact during a critical moment, and we will carry this gratitude with us in the months ahead.
FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS....THANK YOU!!!!!
UPDATE: 12/5/25 5:39PM
We want to extend our deepest gratitude to every single person who has donated, shared, or offered words of support. We also want to thank Joe and his City Club team for all their efforts. Your generosity has meant more than you know.
We also have encouraging news: a court order has required DTE to keep the power on for now. This gives us a small window of protection, but the full bill must be paid by Monday. A lender has been approved by the court, but funds have not been provided as of yet. Once the funds have been received, they will be used to cover the DTE bill and operational costs over the next few months. The court monitors every dollar spent out of these funds. While these funds are a lifeline to keeping the building open there will be a short fall in the budget in the coming months. This is where your generous donations will help.
Every dollar helps stabilize operations while we work on longer-term solutions to preserve this space so many of us love.
We will provide an update on Monday when the funding has been received.
We can’t say it enough: thank you for standing with us, sharing the campaign, and believing in this community.
With gratitude,
The Leland Community
UPDATE !! WE GOT AN EXTENSION TILL MONDAY DECEMBER 8TH TO PAY THE BILL, WE HAVE NOT OBTAINED THE AMOUNT NEEDED, ANY ARTICLE THAT SAYS OTHERWISE HAS NOT CONTACTED THE LELAND WITH THE RIGHT INFORMATION. WE STILL NEED THE FUNDS FOR DTE. -LELAND 12/4/25
We need your help to SAVE THE LELAND TO SAVE CITY CLUB
The Leland House is home to many residents who have been a part of the Leland family for many years. With the recent passing of the Leland's owner, Michael Higgins, it has been very difficult to keep up with the high cost of keeping such a massive and historical building operating. Michael Higgins would put his own personal money into the cost of keeping the building running smoothly. Without his personal funding it is impossible to maintain the costs. We are close to obtaining lending to keep the building operating however we cannot close on this loan in time. DTE is about to shut the power off to the building on December 3rd.
For decades, Leland City Club has been more than just a building or a nightlife spot - it has been a home, a haven, and a heartbeat in the city of Detroit. It's where generations of people first discovered their tribe, their identity, their music, and their voice. It's where misfits became family, where artists and musicians found a stage, where countless friendships were born, where marriages were formed, and where Detroit's alternative culture has thrived for nearly half a century.
Today that legacy is in danger.
Leland City Club is facing a sudden and unexpected closure. Without immediate support from the community it has served for so long, the doors may be forced to shut for good. We are working around the clock to explore every possible option, but the reality is simple: we cannot save Leland alone.
This is where we need you, the DJs, the staff, the regulars, the newcomers, the curious wanderers, the ones who found solace under dim lights and loud speakers, the ones who knew that inside these walls they could finally be themselves.
Whether you've been here once, a hundred times or have only heard stories about its magic - your help can make a real difference.
