My name is Jamal Nichols, and I am proud to stand with BROADWAY IN THE HOOD to protect and expand The Legacy Theatre of Excellence. This theater is more than a building. It is Nevada’s first African American-owned and operated theatre and education complex and home to the African American Entertainment Museum. It opened as a promise: that every young person, no matter their zip code, will have access to free arts education, professional training, mentorship, and a place to discover their voice.
I have seen what this space can do. Kids who struggled in the classroom found confidence on stage. Teenagers who had nowhere to channel their talent learned lighting, sound, and stage management and went on to careers that support them and their families. Families who never imagined visiting a museum now walk through exhibits that honor our stories and legacy. This work transforms lives and keeps the next generation of artists, technicians, and leaders rooted in community and culture.
Now we need your help to secure the future of The Legacy. By supporting BROADWAY IN THE HOOD, you are protecting free programs in acting, dance, music, technical theatre, workforce development, and the only African American Entertainment Museum in the state. Your donation keeps our doors open, our studios humming, and our mentorship programs running for the youth who depend on them.
Please join me in giving what you can to sustain this vital community resource. Your gift will help ensure that every child who dreams of a stage has a place to learn, grow, and shine.
