We’re so close—just $6,000 to go.
After a brutal summer and a drier-than-average winter, our existing pre-release yards are no longer safe or suitable. Heat stress, storm damage and slow-to-recover trees mean vulnerable young koalas currently don’t have a proper space to build muscle, coordination and confidence before they return to the wild.
So we designed the Koala Joey Pre-School—a purpose-built tree yard with safe climbing structures, shade, fresh browse and quiet zones that mimic the wild. It’s where joeys learn to be wild again.
Last month, the community rallied behind this project—but we finished $6,000 short of our final target. With September being Save the Koala Month, we’re asking for one last push so we can start construction and have joeys using the yard as soon as possible.
Why this matters
Joeys oprhaned from vehicle strikes, dog attacks, dehydration and other health conditions need progressive, species-appropriate re-wilding—climbing, balance, canopy exploration and social learning.
Stronger, better-prepared joeys = higher survival once released.
This fundraiser includes a flexible physio zone for complex cases like Violet, a brave little joey learning to adapt after a serious injury—so she and others like her can safely rebuild strength.

How you can help today
- Donate any amount—every $25 buys a fence post; $50 buys a fencing panel, $125 helps install 1 metre of fencing.
- Share this page with a short message about why you gave.
- Ask your workplace to chip in or match.
- Sponsor a “leaf”: gifts of $100+ will be acknowledged with your name (or “In Honour of…”) on a leaf on our Pre-School thank-you board (optional; supply text in a message to SKER).
