We are KIMONO HOUSE.
We are a Japanese-run kimono shop located in SoHo, NYC. For over 20 years we have served New York City, sharing traditional Japanese clothing and culture with our owner and kimono stylist, Ms. Yumiko. We have been graced to have opportunities to take part in fashion media like Vogue, Carine Roitfeld Fashion, W Magazine and more. KIMONO HOUSE is humbled for our many customers over the years— NYC creatives, international tourists, and Japanese culture fans from all over.
We have pushed through tragedies over the years, like 9/11, and the 2008-2009 economic downturn. But today, KIMONO HOUSE is in danger of closing due to the COVID-19 crisis.
With international tourism halted, large events and celebrations like weddings cancelled, and New York City shut down for quarantine, we have experienced 100% drop in sales. Despite knowledge of COVID-19’s economic effect on both people and retail businesses, we have been receiving extreme pressure from our landlord. June will be our third month with no funds to pay rent, and recent concerning events leaves us concerned for the near future.
KIMONO HOUSE is in dire need of support from the local community, the fashion community, and all who admire Japanese culture and traditional kimono. We are the only Japanese-run kimono shop left, and we want to continue sharing Japanese culture to New York City!
Proceeds will go directly towards our rent, and also legal fees, and other store expenses, like building an online website to better serve our customers during this time. our $50,000 goal will keep us secure until the end of the summer! Additional funds will help us keep open for as long as possible until the pandemic is over.
If you would like to donate as an exchange for gift credit for future purchases (increments of $100 only, please), please EMAIL US instead and we will make arrangements! You can redeem in the future towards a purchase, rental or dressed photoshoot session.
We humbly thank you in advance for your help. We hope to serve you in the future!
