Save the House, Support Local Sorority

Donation protected
Hi, we are Alpha Lambda Phi Alpha, a local sorority in Los Angeles, California, and we need help to save our house. Due to a plumbing incident, the house's structural integrity has been compromised. In addition, upon inspection of the home, several other issues were found, including asbestos in the vents and problems with the windows.

The Alpha house has been in the organization since the mid-1900s. To lose it now would be devastating. We have made memories, cultivated friendships, and supported sisterhood in this home. Please help us to restore it to a space that is safe and secure for the active members living there, a place that is comfortable for the organization to meet, and healthy for college students. Anything you can give would be greatly appreciated!

This house means so much to so many active and alumni members. Here are some testimonials:

"The Alpha house is where I've always been comfortable, happy, and surrounded by friends. To see it in disrepair like this breaks my heart." -Carol (President '19-'20, Treasurer '18-'19, Historian '17-'19) Class of 2020

"Alpha for me was friends for life! The house - I think of late-night snacks! Chatting and laughing until all hours! Getting ready for Pan Hell dances and ATO parties. Alpha for me is friendship and love!"

"While I lived at Alpha, I found my forever, who lived across the street, at ATO. That was 1995. We are happily married with two beautiful girls."

"I was President of the house (Alumni Board) for many years and it was a stressful job. The house was built in the 1920s, so many things needed fixing and remodeling. The plumbing was a constant issue. Kat Kepler stepped up to be President when I had personal problems I needed to focus on. She has done an excellent job, but with COVID, most of our usual sisters living in the house moved out...both last year and last summer. In addition, we had a flood situation this year due to plumbing problems and we need a wall patched up plus significant plumbing repair. Due to a lack of funds from fewer renters, we are asking all of you to help out.
I pledged Alpha as a freshman. I was pledge mom my junior year, and Vice President my senior year and lived in the house and shared a bathroom with the President of Alpha, one of my best friends to this day. That year of living in the house brought many of the best memories I have of Occidental, and also solidified many of my best friendships in life. A group of my Alpha friends still get together every year for special trips., including a Caribbean trip to celebrate turning 50!
Please consider contributing to this Alpha house fund to help us keep the house and make it nice and livable for future actives." -Lynn

"I was Treasurer and resident of the Alpha house for three years. I attended 5 togas and countless slumber parties. When I pledged my Freshman year, I had no idea I was doing so alongside amazing women who would become lifelong friends. The Alpha House will always hold a special place in my heart, it’s where I learned that people will love and accept you if you’re brave enough to show them who you really are." -Alice, Class of 2008

"Many of my favorite memories from college were made or had while living at Alpha during my junior and senior years at Oxy. From relaxing with beverages on the roof, Toga parties, getting my name on the faux pas brick, finding ATO’s hiding in the laundry, singing songs for rush or just watching tv with fabulous women and having Sunday dinners together… It’s hard to incapsulate into words what that house and moreover the friendships that came out of being a part of Alpha means to me. I cherish those moments in the house. Lifelong friendships and memories for days! ❤️" -Sarita

"Alpha was such a big part of my college experience, and I continue to keep friendships with many of my Alpha sisters! I also lived in the house for almost two years and it was a great home away from home. I would love to see the house stay within control and the hands of our sorority and for my sisters to continue to have a home away from home and a place to make new and lasting friendships." -Stephanie (Social Chair, Risk Manager) Class of 2011

"The Alpha House was my home for two years, from 2018-2020, and I can't thank the organization enough for all it gave me. I would be devastated if the house wasn't available for future Alphas to enjoy the same independence, friendship, and fun! The house has good bones, and a lot of history, let's see fit it has a good future!" -Elliott (Vice-President) Class of 2020
