Just under a year ago, our dream came true: owning an old Palazzo in Sicily. After several years of saving, planning, and longing, we signed the papers, and a Palazzo in the small town of Comiso became ours. Little did we know then the exact costs of renovations. Our palazzo dates back to the latter part of the 19th century and has not been inhabited for about 40 years. This means it is very much in need of maintenance and renovations. The most urgent and where our priority lies is the roof. It is also the most extensive and expensive part to renovate. Initially, we will renovate the most urgent part of the roof, and to save money on scaffolding, it is recommended that one of the facades is renovated at the same time.

Palazzo Cabibbo was built in the latter part of the 19th century by Doctor Nicola Cabibbo. He was a prominent doctor in the town of Comiso, where he was an important figure for the town's hospital. Even today, there is a bust of him standing in the older hospital. Palazzo Cabibbo is an excellent example of what a bourgeois palazzo from that time could look like, with period-typical ceiling paintings, floors, and a well-preserved old kitchen. We want to do everything in our power to preserve as much as possible and renovate it as gently as possible.

För knappt ett år sen gick våran dröm i uppfyllelse, att äga ett gammalt Palazzo på Sicilien. Efter flera år av sparande, planerande och längtade skrev vi på papprena och ett Palazzo i den lilla staden Comiso blev vårat. Lite visste vi då exakta kostnader för renoveringar. Vårat palazzo är från den senare delen av 1800-talet och har inte varit bebott på ca 40 år. Vilket gör att det är mycket eftersatt i underhåll och renoveringar. Det som är mest akut och där våran prioritering ligger är taket. Det är även den mest omfattande och dyraste delen att renovera. Vi kommer till en början renovera de mest akuta delen av taket och för att spara pengar på byggnadsställningar så rekommenderas det att även den ena fasaden renoveras samtidigt.

Palazzo Cabibbo är byggt under den senare delen av 1800-talet av doktor Nicola Cabibbo. Han var en framstående doktor i staden Comiso där han var en viktigt person för stadens sjukhus. Än idag finns det en byst av honom stående i det äldre sjukhuset. Palazzo Cabibbo är ett utmärkt exempel av hur ett borgerligt palazzo från tiden kunde se ut med tidstypiska takmålningar, golv och ett välbevarat äldre kök. Vi vill göra allt i våran makt att bevara så mycket som möjligt och renovera det så varsamt som möjligt.
