Save the Gym for our Athletes
The Coronavirus Pandemic has already taken so much from so many. As it continues to drag on more and more businesses are struggling to stay open.
Throughout this time the owners and coaches at Waller’s GymJam have worked hard to keep the athletes motivated, connected and strong. They’ve done online training, team connections online to keep the athletes “together,” created an outdoor area when allowed for conditioning and fitness training and rolled with the punches as much as they could. But they are still not allowed to hold recreational classes, camps over the summer and winter breaks and their competition that brings in much of their income.
This gym is such an amazing place. The athletes here not just get physically fit and learn to love a sport, they learn the importance of teamwork, time-management, healthy eating, self-care and more. Every year at the end of the year banquet the student athletes who have maintained good grades are honored before the athletic accomplishments are discussed. Many of the athletes who train here obtain scholarships and are invited to compete in college. They value community, friendship, education and family. When a tornado affected a Tennesse gym before their State meet, the athletes and parents at GymJam raised funds to donate to that team to help them get back in the gym. Chris Waller calls them “iron friends” because they strengthen each other and don’t break each other down.
I could keep tying reasons we need to save this business but I’m going to ask other parents and friends who donate to comment their “why” in the comments. Please, please help us save this place for all the athletes and families who have so benefited from it’s existence.
Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to so many child athletes. You can see more about the gym and the GymJam Foundation at http://wallersgymjam.com/ scroll to the bottom and see a direct donation button.
