The Great Maya Forest, spanning Guatemala, Mexico, and Belize, is one of the largest remaining tropical forests in the Americas. Home to jaguars, tapirs, scarlet macaws, and thousands of other species, it is also one of the most threatened ecosystems in the region.
Deforestation, wildfires, wildlife trafficking, illegal cattle ranching, and organized crime are destroying the forest at an alarming rate. If we fail to act now, future generations may inherit only fragments of what once was one of the world's most extraordinary ecosystems.
Through the documentary Mayan Forest in Check and a series of conservation initiatives led by Rescue The Planet, we are building a long-term movement to protect the forest through education, youth empowerment, public awareness, and science.
Your donation supports four interconnected initiatives:
Educate to Protect
Bringing the documentary and educational programs to schools, universities, and communities throughout Guatemala, Mexico, and Belize, inspiring thousands of young people to become environmental leaders.
Guardians of the Forest
Training and empowering youth living inside the forest through the Rescue Rangers program, providing leadership development, environmental education, and hands-on conservation experiences.
The Forest Can't Wait
Developing a regional awareness campaign using documentaries, social media, public relations, and storytelling to keep the future of the Maya Forest in the public conversation and encourage decision-makers to act.
Science to Save the Great Maya Forest
Supporting research and monitoring efforts focused on the critically endangered Scarlet Macaw (Ara macao cyanoptera) and other conservation priorities throughout the region.
We have already demonstrated the power of this approach. Through our previous documentary, Plasticsphere, we reached more than 75,000 students and generated measurable environmental action in schools and communities.
Now we are expanding this model to one of the most important forests on Earth.
Every donation helps fund educational programs, field activities, scientific research, outreach campaigns, youth leadership initiatives, equipment, transportation, and conservation action throughout the Great Maya Forest.
Together, we can help ensure that the Great Maya Forest remains alive for generations to come.
