Save the Goshen 14: A Winter Emergency for Abandoned Horses

Donation protected
Fourteen adult horses in Goshen County, Wyoming, face starvation this winter. Since October, neighbors bought and hauled hay to keep them alive—an act of compassion that cannot continue without your help. I am a retired veterinarian who has seen too many such cases in my home state of Wyoming.

The Situation: The horses were abandoned by their owner, Nathan Michael Wallman, who faces trial in March 2026 on three counts of animal cruelty and neglect involving 17 other horses. Despite a court order requiring him to feed and care for any animals in his possession, these 14 horses have been left without adequate food or water. The pasture where they graze is depleted to dirt, leaving them entirely dependent on hay supplies.

Why This Matters Now: Wyoming winters are unforgiving. The horses cannot survive the next four months until spring arrives without consistent feed. I estimate they need 20 tons of hay to survive until May. While one generous neighbor initially stepped up with his own hay supply, he can no longer sustain the expense. Another local man volunteered to purchase and haul hay. But he needs community support to continue.

The Cost: Twenty tons of quality hay, purchased locally and hauled to the property, costs approximately $5,000 through May. This covers the hay plus the transportation costs necessary to get it to the horses. My goal is to raise $5,000.

What Happens Next: Your donation ensures the horses will survive the winter while the legal system plays out. Once Wallman's trial concludes and, if found guilty, he loses ownership rights, the goal is to get all 14 horses to regional horse rescues for care and rehabilitation. If, for whatever reason, some or all of the funds cannot be transferred to the Goshen neighbors now feeding the horses, the residue will go to Home on the Range, an Albany County, Wyoming animal rescue for livestock.

This is about keeping the Goshen 14 alive until justice is served.
