Save The Flat Iron: Greensboro’s Last True Small Music Club

The Flat Iron is in serious trouble.

And Greensboro, a city with more musicians than places for them to play, a city with a long, storied history of incredible local music, is about to lose one of the only real places left for local creatives to take a stage.

There is nowhere else like The Flat in this town. Nowhere.

It’s the room where local musicians got their start. The room touring bands still ask to play. The room where punk, metal, country, indie rock, folk, experimental music, and everything in between have all had a home for years and years.

It is the beating heart of Greensboro’s music scene.

And if you are a musician, you already know there is not a better sounding small room in this city. The Flat Iron is legendary because it feels right. It sounds right. It matters.

Thousands of musicians have played there. Thousands of people have packed into that room with friends, discovered new bands, fallen in love with live music, and built memories that still stick with them years later.

We already lost The Flat once before.

And the only reason it came back is because people in this community loved it enough to fight for it.

Now we are here again.

Josh and Abby have poured their hearts into keeping The Flat alive. They are not corporate owners or investors. They are people who genuinely love music, love this community, and have sacrificed to keep the doors open for musicians and music lovers in Greensboro. They also have a young family depending on this place surviving.

This is their livelihood.

Right now they need help.

Not next month. Not after a farewell show flyer gets posted online. Right now.

Because if The Flat Iron closes, Greensboro loses something it cannot replace. We lose the last real small club in town where live music of all genres still has a home. We lose one of the only places left where local musicians can still build something from the ground up in front of a crowd.

Once places like this disappear, they are gone.

If you have ever played there, loved a show there, had a beer there, met friends there, danced there, or simply felt lucky that Greensboro still had a place like The Flat Iron, now is the time to step up for it.

Donate what you can right now.

No amount is too small.

Share this fundraiser everywhere. Text your old bandmates. Call your friends. Tag the people you used to stand shoulder to shoulder with in that room. Remind people what this place means before it is too late.

Greensboro brought The Flat Iron back once before.

We need to do it again.

Every penny raised will go toward helping Josh King and Abby Spoon save a business that this community truly loves and NEEDS.

And like so many people in this town, my own story is tied up in that place too.

I met some of my best friends at The Flat Iron. I fell in love at The Flat Iron. As a musician, I packed that room playing shows and had some of the best nights of my life there.

I know I’m not alone in that.

I have watched place after place that gave Greensboro its character disappear this year. Places that made downtown feel alive, weird, creative, and worth fighting for.

I am not willing to lose The Flat Iron without a fight.

As a single mother and musician, I know how hard life already is for artists, small business owners, and working people trying to hold onto the things they love and build something meaningful in this city.

It is my mission to help save this place, and I need y’all to rally with me.

Please donate whatever you can right now and help keep Greensboro music alive.

And in the meantime, after you donate, go see a show.

Go drink a beer.

Go support the very best small music club in this town.
