This is Patrick and Heather Edenfield and their amazing children.  The family has been fighting battles every day for the past year since Patrick was first diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL).  This type of leukemia is more common in children, and is more difficult to treat in adults.  Patrick has spent the past year getting monthly chemotherapy.  He has experienced multiple occurrences of sepsis, blood clots, and other complications of chemotherapy.  The treatments are an hour away in Savannah, GA and gas costs alone have made it difficult for them to feed their family at times.  With the help of family and friends, the past year has been one of merely survival.

But now Patrick's Oncology team has delivered devastating news.   Patrick must get a bone marrow (stem cell) transplant within the next few months, or try to qualify for a clinical trial for alternative therapy.  The Oncologists have shared that no hospital within driving distance in Georgia can provide either one of these therapies.  They are insisting that Patrick, Heather and their children move to an area with a transplant program in order to continue Patrick's treatment.  Otherwise, he has one more month of chemotherapy and then his oncologists can do no more for him.  Once treatment stops, the Oncologists predict that the leukemia will return and it will be much harder to treat, to the point where PATRICK WILL DIE

Heather immediately made the tough phone calls and started to research where Patrick can receive treatment.  She found that the University of North Carolina, in her home town of Chapel Hill, is not only a transplant center, but is also involved in clinical trials for therapies that are working for children with ALL, and are now being tested in adults.   Patrick could be evaluated for and participate in this therapy, or possibly get a bone marrow transplant, but only if they move to North Carolina and are able to be within driving distance of the UNC Hospitals.

This is where we need you!  The amazing community of friends and family can help move Patrick, Heather, and their children to a place of hope.  Heather's childhood home network, her parents, and the UNC Hospital programs can work together to give Patrick a chance to survive.

We all know how difficult it is to move a family.  In addition to the moving expense, Patrick will continue to need treatments that render him unable to work.  Heather will still need to care for him and their young children every day.  Patrick does now have some insurance, but it does not cover 100% and the copays for visits and treatments have been piling up every month.

This family needs your help!  Every donation made here goes directly to Patrick and Heather for gas, food, rent, utilities and the medical bills that they are responsible for.

It comes down to this.  Hope for Patrick, Heather and their children lies in different cancer treatments in a different state and town.  Please help them move to where hope lives, and Patrick has the best chance for survival.  Thank you!
