The aftermath of storm claudia:
Our wonderful local pub,The Dog Inn in Ewyas Harold, has suffered terribly and the impact has been felt across the whole community. The dog inn isn't just a pub it's a true hub of village life, a place where people gather, celebrate and support one another.
We are now hoping to raise enough support to help them get back on their feet and rebuild the pub into the welcoming place it has always. We're not only seeking monetary donations but also essential items and services that will help restore the space.
They are urgently looking for:
- kit hen appliances
- flooring specialist
- bar furniture
- kitchen stock and equipment replacements
- any materials, skills, or expertise that can help bring the dog in back to life
Every offer big or small will make a huge difference. Let's come together for a place that has always has and will hopefully continue to bring us together.
Their story:
Mark and Elaine Johnson moved to the village about 13 years ago with their 5 children. The family have been regular customers at the dog inn since moving here. Just over 2 years ago they decided to take over the pub. They have poured their hearts and souls into this new business adventure to make it a warm, family and friendly feeling to everyone who comes to the pub for a drink or for food. As the old saying goes, come in a stranger leave as a friend.
On Friday the 14th of November the village was hit hard by storm claudia causing alot of devastation to local businesses. No matter how hard they tried to keep the water out of the pub but it came in through the back doors and side doors and flooded the pub. They put locals up for the night in their flat above the pub as water was flowing to fast for people to safely leave. The following morning, we were all hit with the task of cleaning the village up which as a community, we all helped each other out in whatever way we could. The shop, chip shop and all pubs are all back open. To get the dog inn up and running properly it will cost quite a bit with new flooring, fridges, seating, decorating and stock all needing to be replaced. They don't like asking for help, so we are. In these unfortunate circumstances help received by donating a little time, money, expertise or appliances would be greatfully received.
