Save the chickens at GoneStraw Farms

Hi we are Reese and Christine farmers/owners of GoneStraw Farms.
We are a husband and wife team specializing in fantastic eggs. We started over 10 years ago as a hobby quickly morphing into a lifestyle. We started with 20 chicks over a decade ago as something fun to do with the kids. Then grew to 500 in our small backyard selling to neighbors and farmers markets. Through a freind we found out that a large poultry farm was shutting down their operation. We were blessed to have gotten a meeting with the wonderful owner of the property, and he agreed to let this crazy couple attempt their dream of becoming full time poultry farmers. And because of this opportunity to lease this poultry ranch we have been able to realize that dream of living this wonderful life as farmers. Over the years we have had some rough patches. Its not for the faint of heart for sure! Enduring a newcastle outbreak in 2018 having the government destroy all our feathered friends on the farm and only giving us 1 cent per bird nearly bankrupting us with their treatment and demands. We somehow push through that and started gaining ground on expanding our delivery business to then have it completely wiped out by the pandemic. Shifting our focus to our eggstand out in front of the farm and developing a home delivery route was our saving grace. All while dealing with a constant seemingly a nightly or weekly theft issue on the backside of our farm. We have been robbed too many times to mention out back and in the chicken houses. It has become something we deal with. It goes along with finding and keeping hired hands around. We have always known this place would someday be sold off to a developer and we would get our walking papers, but that is now becoming a reality with a new very big housing development going in right next door and it will be consuming our location as well. So we have been trying to plan for that with a little saving and planning for our next location to permanently root ourselves in our community to continue the wonderful relationships and service to our neighbors. We love sharing our lifestyle with all those who are curious. And finally, we just recently experienced our first home invasion last Sunday October 30, 2022 at 3 in the afternoon. They snuck past our egg stand lady and entered our home in broad daylight. We think they were looking for the stand money. They stumble across our feed money and our nest egg. Not only is our ability to feed our birds been catastophically effected but our funds to help us make our next jump to a new farm location is gone. We will continue no matter what pushing forward but not sure what that looks like. We love and appreciate all our customers and look forward to providing our local community with the most eggcellent eggs.
