Hi, my name is Melissa and I'm fundraising on behalf of two organizations located in Mexico- Teo Cäo and the Tajawil Ta Kakaw Cooperative.
Tajawil Ta Kakaw Cooperative is the organization of families (approx 19) who steward the lands where the cacao plant grows. We could call them the "farmers." Only picture a wild wilderness of jungle vegetation with wild animals vs a plot of agriculture.
Teo Cäo then receives the seeds of the cacao plant from Tajawil Ta Kakaw and produces products which are sold in markets and at their cafe in Querétaro, Mexico (whole seed, powder, cacao nibs, ceremonial grade, etc).
Cacao is near and dear to my heart and I know I'm not the only American who loves Cacao (in fact if you eat and enjoy any form of chocolate, then you too love cacao as ALL chocolate in the world comes from this precious, sacred plant). We are creating a bridge between the US and Mexico through the love of chocolate and it's roots the sacred cacao plant.
Teo Cäo and Tajawil Ta Kakaw are on a mission to conserve and protect the jungle habitat where cacao grows.
Many changes have impacted the life cycle of the cacao plant and unfortunately the cacao plant is struggling to grow into maturity.
This has a devastating ripple effect on the ecosystem as the cacao plant plays a critical role in regulating and balancing the planet.
DID YOU KNOW? Cocoa is one of the crops with the highest CO2 absorption on the planet, being able to absorb up to 57.1 tons of CO2 per hectare per year. This is incredible!
The conservation of cocoa is vital for the future of the planet.
Teo Cäo & Tajawil Ta Kakaw have a solution!
They have developed a strategic plan with sustainable water management and comprehensive soil management practices, which help preserve jungle ecosystems.
We need your support in raising the funds to implement this plan!
We are in Phase 1 right now:
1) Training in agricultural technologies for producers
a. Solid rain
b. Biochar
c. Agroforestry management (pruning, fertilization and grafting)
d. Electro-culture
2) Implementation of keyline methodology
3) Monitoring, tracking and analyzing the results of the methodology
