The Briar East Woods are located in the center of Hessville, Hammond, IN, a heavy industrialized city. This 4,700-year-old dune woodland is the last unprotected remnant of The High Tolleston Dunes, an ancient Lake Michigan shoreline. It has thousands of mature trees with thousands of birds that live among them. Tens of thousands of migrating birds use this habitat as a resting place and food source.
These woods are under threat because the city of Hammond wants to build a train bridge that cuts directly through them, ultimately making way for a subdivision development. Save Briar East Woods is a group of citizens saving these dune woodlands from destruction.
We are asking for your help to save the dunes as we account for flyers, signs, and social media. Though we have covered these expenses over the years, we're asking for support to continue the fight. If you are able to help out, any amount is appreciated. Your donation is going to saving our dune woodlands, our geological treasure in the heart of Hessville. #SaveBriarEastWoods
