Help Save the Bees
Growing a garden gives us some nice rewards… pretty flowers, fresh fruits and vegetables, and it attracts wildlife to your yard – songbirds and hummingbirds, colorful butterflies, and even honeybees. But some of these creatures are in trouble, and they need our help. Honeybees have been dying off at a rate of approximately 30% per year, bees are indispensable pollinators of most ecosystems. There are 369,000 flowering plant species, and 90% of them are dependent on insect pollination.
While the population of all species has declined over the last few decades, the dramatic drop in the population of bees has increasingly been of concern because of the important role they play as pollinators. Without bees, many of the world’s most important crops would fail and directly affect the food supply of humans and countless other species. Approximately one third of the food we eat is the result of honey bee pollination. Many animal species dependent on bees for their survival because their food source, including nuts, berries, seeds, and fruits, relies on insect pollination. Pollination not only makes food available for other organisms but also allows floral growth, which provides habitats for animals, including other insects and birds.
This is why I need your help to create a pollination garden to help provide what the bees need to survive, you can help by donating to my gofundme.
With the money I receive I will install a sprinkler system to keep my pollination garden alive. This garden will contain water sources for the bee to get water as well as pollen and nectar. I plant more drought resistant plants such as bee balm, butterfly weed, goldenrod, Lavender, and more. I plan on spreading clover instead of grass because the clover is a flowering plant and does not require mowing. I also will plant various fruit trees and flowering trees. I’m starting off small but plan to expand my garden and bee hive in the future
