Save The Bebedero

Donation protected
This fund is to help The Bebedero make its payroll and get through the next month. That's chefs, bartenders, servers, musicians, dishwashers and others who helped to make The Bebedero such a haven of creativity for our community.
If you know anything about the food industry you know that the profit margins are so thin most owners are only working to afford a lifestyle they enjoy. I live paycheck to paycheck and we're a successful restaurant. No one is getting rich off The Bebedero. We just love it so much because it allows us to be creative and interact with other creative souls. It allows us to do what we love. That's why our industry is hit so hard by these events. It's less about profit and more about relationships.
It's easy to say stay home and avoid spreading the virus when your job can be done from home. And if you have one of those jobs, God bless you, and congratulations. I wish I could tend bar from my living room. I wish my career didn't require people to leave their homes, but it does and that means we probably won't survive this crisis.
I'm ok with losing The Bebedero. It's just a building. It's just a business. But the people that made The Bebedero great will need our help, and call me a cynic, but I have very little faith in our government to help the mom and pop, business owner and their employees. They'll probably put a bandaid on this bullet wound with a little bit of money and I'm sure a lot of banks and corporations will be well funded, but the average guy living paycheck to paycheck is going to get left behind. I'm sure those same banks will be happy to let us go farther into debt with interest rates they think are generous, but we'll never really dig ourselves out of those holes.
If we want real help we have to help ourselves and each other. That's why I started this fund. So that I can pay my staff and tell myself at least The Bebedero no longer owes the people who worked so hard for it.
So if you ever enjoyed a night at The Bebedero, or fell in love at The Bebedero, or just plain like what we brought to Charlottesville, please help us.
It would be a miracle if we can afford to reopen after this and I would love to believe in miracles, but that's not what this fund is about. It's about making the payroll, plain and simple. Any money donated will be given to the people who need it.
Thank you and remember, "Aqui eres amado."
