SAVE THE BEARD

Hello, my name is Rachel, and I am creating this fundraiser for my husband Christopher González, aka “Jimmy the Barber.” Chris was recently diagnosed with an 18cm cancerous tumor in his chest that has made its home above his heart and into the right side of his chest cavity. It was so large that it had begun to compress his airways. He also required a chest tube to rid of over 2 liters worth of fluid that had built up around his right lung, which made it even more difficult for Chris to breathe effectively. How he continued cutting hair and serving his clients at the barbershop while all of this was happening is beyond me. According to his oncologists, they believe that his tumor grew and is growing very quickly and therefore recommended we urgently begin chemotherapy. Most chemotherapies can be done outpatient for one day out of the week, but the regimen Chris requires is very aggressive which means that he needs to be admitted in the hospital with close observation for 5 days every 3 weeks, so he can receive 3 separate chemotherapy drugs every day for 8-10 hours in the duration of each admission for the coming months.

 

That being said, we expect this year’s medical bills to be more than we can handle at this time. With our expected baby due on Christmas Day and Chris’s chemotherapy, we are humbly asking for any contribution. Although any and all amounts are greatly appreciated, we really are asking for you all to keep Chris, me, and baby-to-come in your prayers. It will be a strenuous number of months ahead of us, so we will greatly appreciate all the help and prayer we can receive.

 

Being Chris’s wife and carrying his child has been my greatest honor and joy. The way he loves others is incredibly inspiring. Chris has been a pillar in his community, giving his all every chance he can get. In his first two years of owning his own barbershop, he’s already run many fundraisers including giving school supplies to children in need for their new scholastic year; giving Christmas gifts to families in need; and even donated all of his own earnings to his community from auctioned barbershop services, including his own tips received on his first day back from being shut down for months during covid. His heart for giving is beyond what most people see on the surface. He dedicates his life to being the man God called him to be - a man who loves on every person he meets, a man who creates opportunities to give, and a man who is willing to listen to those who are hurting.

 

Chris is fighting his hardest to beat this cancer, so he can come back to his barbershop better and stronger, give back to the community he loves, and be healthy again to see the birth of his baby boy.
