Dear Friends and Supporters,

My name is Kimberly Houston-Kennerson, and I am the Founding Director of Notably Gifted Arts Academy Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to the holistic development of young artists. Our mission is to empower youth to become servant leaders through academic support, the arts, and social-emotional development.

As you may be aware, recent federal policy changes have significantly impacted funding for programs that benefit students from working families. In just the past few months, families in Ohio—and across the nation—have lost access to the ACE (Afterschool Child Enrichment) program, which previously provided critical scholarships for after school programs, summer camps, and other educational opportunities.

In addition, many arts grants have been cut or redirected. For instance, an arts endowment organization in Dayton is now being prompted to direct applicants to align their proposals with political themes like “Make America Healthy Again” in order to qualify for funding. Over $1 billion in student mental health grants have been eliminated. And the TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) grant, which could provide up to $200,000 for the 2025–2026 school year, has been paused without clear guidance on its future.

These cuts directly and negatively impact the students and families we serve—not only at Notably Gifted Arts Academy, but across the country. Nonprofit organizations like ours depend on grants, donations, and fundraising to address pressing social needs, promote education, support mental health, and ensure community well-being.

Without critical funding, it is becoming increasingly difficult to offer the services our youth and families depend on. Additionally, many local artists count on us for summer employment as they provide services to instruct our students. That’s why we’re asking for your help.
