After nearly four years creating beautiful artworks, organizing musical and visual collaborations, lessons, workshops, performances, and community art exhibitions, Studio Dora, located at the Riverside Arts Center in downtown Ypsilanti, is in danger of closing for good! Due to unforeseen circumstances, the studio is in financial danger and needs the community to pitch in and keep it running! Ypsilanti, Ann Arbor, Detroit, as well as the larger international arts community, all benefit from the hard work and thoughtful contributions that come from this art studio, and all of the local charities it supports. Studio Dora and founding artist Jo Diaspora have been volunteering time, energy, and valuable artworks at auction, to sustain the local arts community, including: the Honeybee Festival, First Fridays Ypsilanti, the Arts & Music Guild, Grove Studios, Riverside Arts Center, as well as many other public and private non-profits and charity organizations. Each year since opening its doors, Studio Dora has created and implemented a community mural which still to this day beautify public spaces in Ypsilanti, Michigan. The art studio has functioned as a non-profit (without the official status) since its invention, striving to foster and inspire the arts, with little or no budget.
Finally, we need help from our community members to keep the space alive and thriving! Any contribution helps, and larger contributions will be rewarded with original artworks. All contributors will be thanked publicly unless otherwise requested, and listed as donors to the Art Studio.
Creating this space to meet, create, and teach in, right in the heart of downtown Ypsilanti, helping to feed the local culture while strengthening the organizations it collaborates with, has been my greatest art project and passion to date! I would do literally anything to keep this studio open, and have been working 2 and 3 part-time jobs in an attempt to fund everything myself. It would mean the world to me to be able to keep the dream alive one more year, by which time I hope to have the grants and funding to stay open into the future. Please help me to realize this beautiful dream, so I may continue to provide free art lessons, exhibition help, beautiful murals, workshops, and community support to Ypsilanti and the southeastern Michigan community! Any help would mean the World to me.
