Save the Armored Mud Balls

Hello. I'm Prof. Richard D. Little of Greenfield (Mass.) Community College. In the 1970's I discovered rare Jurassic age lithified Armored Mud Balls in this historic bridge foundation in Turners Falls, MA. These rare sedimentary features have only been noted in a few places worldwide. The ones here in Massachusetts seem to be the only ones easily seen, not in far-off, obscure outcrops which may not be still observable. These Massachusetts "treasures" need to be protected!

One way to do this is to make them an official Massachusetts State "Sedimentary Structure", and as such they would join over 50 other symbols of Massachusetts. Our State Geologist supports their importance, and 3 State Representatives support this legislative initiative. I am leading the effort to promote this and wish financial support to pay for mailing and office supplies, web site costs, and other expenses which could include in-state travel, and perhaps hats and T shirts with a logo.

My time is contributed free. Any contributions beyond expenses will be donated to the Greenfield Community College Foundation.

Thank you...and if you are near Western Massachusetts, come to the Greenfield Comm. College Geology Path and see the unique armored mud balls on display. Please contact me with any questions or comments. A 6 minute video is on my web site. WWW.EarthView.rocks Thank you! Armored Mud Balls are so picturesque, exciting, amusing, and rare! ----Richard
