More information about Ark of Cleveland Inc: The Ark of Cleveland, Inc. is a Bradley County, TN No Kill animal shelter dedicated to community education and re-homing adoptable pets. The Ark is staffed by volunteers who dedicate their time to rescue and re-home as many pets as possible. In addition to vetting and re-homing healthy pets, The Ark educates the public on various issues concerning pet care and training. These topics include spay/neuter programs, crate training, and pet safety. Every pet taken into The Ark receives comprehensive vetting before they enter the facility. This allows pets to be adopted by the public in take home condition, and to be introduced to their new homes without the stress of additional medical procedures. This increases The Ark's adoption rate, and reduces the return rate.
All shelters are being overwhelmed currently. People are surrendering pets in record numbers, as they aren't able to care for them during this crisis. This puts a heavy burden on The Ark to Vet and have these pets available for adoption. Compounding the high surrender rates is the fact that people aren't able to come out to adopt pets. We are keeping our doors open by scheduling appointments, and observing CDC recommendations. Extra cleaning is quickly depleting stores of supplies, which can't be replaced due to lack of funds and lack of availability.
We are funded solely by donations, and the adoption fees recovered for vetting when a pet is adopted. Donations are down as well. We do not receive any city or county funds, as do the two municipal shelters. Both these shelters refer overflow to The Ark when they can't take more pets. Again, another burden that we are ill equipped to fund. Please understand, we have NO paid staff and are all volunteers. We have no mortgage or rent as volunteers bought our building. We do have all the expenses every home does: electric, water, waste disposal, insurance, veterinary bills, and so on. In short, every penny is spent on the pets, keeping them in a loving home like environment. Now, their home is being threatened due to lack of funding.
We have taken the following steps to provide emergency funding in our efforts to keep the shelter open.
1. Emergency Federal Small Business Grant has been applied for. The system is back logged, and if approved could be weeks before any funds are seen.
2. This GoFundMe which allows every visitor and everyone that cares about pets a way to help. Every donation, no matter how small, is vital and treasured.
3. A Patreon Account is being activated, an idea we have long considered. Now is the time to make this platform available to those who wish to support us via this method. Announcements to follow soon.
4. We have an existing Wish List with Amazon which has vital supplies that keep the shelter open, clean, and the pets fed. The link list is posted on our Facebook page.
