Save the Amphitheatre

The J. Dan Talbott Amphitheatre has been a longstanding staple of Bardstown/Nelson County and Kentucky since 1959. Thousands of tourists visit Bardstown every year to experience the story of the first great American composer Stephen Collins Foster, who composed Kentucky's popular state song.
The amphitheater property is owned by the state of Kentucky, but it is safe to say that the majority of the hard work, vision, and day-to-day management has been that of The Stephen Foster Drama Association. The Association is made up of a collection of dedicated individuals that want to keep community theatre, wholesome family entertainment, and this great American story alive.
Every year the Association not only manages the Stephen Foster Story, but they also offer a summer concert series named "Live at the Park", and they feature productions that bring to life the magical stories of The Wizard of Oz, Beauty and the Beast, Shrek, Grease, and many others. This year the Association planned to provide our community with the "practically perfect musical" in Mary Poppins. These productions feature seasoned actors but also incorporate local men, women, and children to show their budding theatrical talent.
Unfortunately, now the life of these productions are in jeopardy.
On December 21st, 2017 Kentucky state officials abruptly and unexpectedly CLOSED THE AMPHITHEATRE AND ARE PREVENTING THE SHOWING OF THE STEPHEN FOSTER STORY, MARY POPPINS, AND THE CONCERT SERIES. THEY CITED  UNSAFE CONDITIONS OF THE FACILITY. IT WAS THE STATE'S RESPONSIBILITY TO MAINTAIN THE FACILITY.

THE BARDSTOWN COMMUNITY AND LOCAL ELECTED OFFICIALS ARE RALLYING TOGETHER TO ENSURE THAT THE STEPHEN FOSTER STORY WILL GO ON FOR IT'S 60TH YEAR ANNIVERSARY!

Your donation will go directly to the Stephen Foster Association to help them make the necessary improvements needed to make sure that the well-being of the actors, the programs, and our love for community theatre is protected.
