Terry’s is a traditional British cafe founded in the early 1980’s by Terry a former Smithfield meat trader .
The cafe is situated on an enclave of shops just of Borough high street called Great Suffolk St parade . Terry’s in its original form was known as a working mens cafe. Being situated in Borough and neighbouring Bermondsey Terry’s has became a hub of the community serving hearty breakfasts and lunches to builders, scaffolders and the locals alike. In 2011 we enhanced the cafe by introducing our mobile coffee bike to the forecourt of the cafe serving Monmouth coffee to passing pedestrians , becoming an overnight hit with our loyal customers far and wide. In 2018 we expanded our business into the butcher's shop next door going from coffee bike to coffee shop! The business was passed down to Austin who funded the business from the money inherited from his late father . Austin decided to refit the kitchen with up to date appliances and lovingly restore the front of the shop with the family’s prominent antique style.
Due to the devastating affects Coronavirus has had on the world community over past few weeks and months, Terry's has made the honourable decision to close our doors until the pandemic is under control.
With the lack of weekly and future sales our expansion plans will need to be put on hold , leaving our future in doubt . The consequences of this could jeopardize our growth , since we now have two units our overheads may fall behind bringing our leases into question and face the realistic threat of our doors needing to close permanently.
Unfortunately cafes like ours are on the decline, its culturally important that we support traditions and our local small business. With your help we can secure Terry's long into the future.
Why we need funds?
-Maintaining & building a strong team.
-Planning & legal fees . We have drawings to merge the two units into one creating a more efficient space yet retaining its unique character.
-Utilities - Keeping the lights on
Whilst we'd love for you to come down and visit us for breakfast or lunch , we understand if this might not be possible due to self isolation measures. What we could ask of you though, is if you could 'Pledge' a sum here.
£20 donation = £25 *lifetime voucher
£40 donation = £50 *lifetime voucher
£100 donation = £125 *lifetime voucher
This will help us enormously when meeting our financial commitments over the coming months. Coronavirus is unquestionably the biggest challenge we have ever had to face as a business but we are sure with your continued support that we will be able to make it through this challenging time - together.
