My name is Allie and my best friend in the whole entire world is Tank. He is my second Doberman. I fell in love with the breed after my partner, Kyle Powell, and I adopted a senior Doberman named Naiki. She passed away from dilated cardiomyopathy after the best 83 days together, in her sleep, on December 7. We adopted Tank on December 11. I saw a Craigslist ad saying they needed to rehome him, and I sent an email saying I would leave work right away and pick him up!
On June 6, 2025, I was bringing Tank outside to use the bathroom, and he saw a deer. I ran after him, but it was too late; some out-of-towner hit him. I ran up to their vehicle, beating on their window, telling them they hit my dog. She said no, it was a deer. My dog was crying on the side of the road, and I said, does that sound like a deer? They then pulled off. The police said it’s my fault. I am liable for damage to their car, but yet if I hit a deer and a cop pulls up, I get an inattentive driving ticket.
Tank went to the pet ER last night where I was told he needs his back leg amputated. Shore Pet Surgery will do it for $1200. Kyle has been in and out of the hospital the past 2 months because of his diabetes; his sugar won’t stabilize, so he hasn’t been able to work. He is currently in the hospital now, and he has no idea that this has happened to our baby. I would like to have everything done and have Tank recovering before he comes home. I couldn’t tell him and put added stress on him at the moment.
A lot of people won’t understand what this dog means to me. Tank has been the one constant in my life. He is there to lick away my tears when I am upset; he’s there when I have nothing left to give, and he still loves me. Tank has gotten me through some dark moments these past few months, and I cannot stand to see him in pain. This dog is like a child to me, and I love him more than life. He has been my reason for getting out of bed many days, my reason for living. Kyle loves this dog just as much as I do, and I think Tank might be his soul dog. That is why it is so important I get him the help he needs.
If you would like to donate, you can donate here or call the vet directly and make a payment on Monday, June 9, at [phone redacted]. I plan to make the drive, leaving my house around 5 am or earlier, and sit in the parking lot because this place is on a first-come, first-serve basis. If you are in a situation where you are able to help, please do. Tank is an amazing dog; he protects his family with his life, even if it’s from deer.
