Save Tafida

Our five-year-old daughter, Tafida, is a kind, bubbly and beautiful little girl, who has been in hospital since February following a sudden and traumatic brain injury. At present, she shows gradual but very encouraging signs of recovery. A team in the Royal London Hospital, where she is being treated, has decided, however, that it would be in her “best interests” that her life is ended. We, her parents, strongly disagree.

We believe Tafida should be given the chance of life, and the opportunity to improve, and the Gaslini Children’s Hospital in Genoa, Italy, shares our opinion. Doctors there are willing to treat Tafida but the Barts NHS Trust, which runs the Royal London Hospital, has taken legal action to prevent us from taking our daughter out of the country.

The case was heard by the High Court in mid-September and the judge has reserved his decision until October.

In the meantime, we desperately require funds to meet our legal costs, which will run into many tens of thousands of pounds. Should the judge see the justice of our case, we will also need to find an additional £20,000 to pay for Tafida to be airlifted to Italy and an estimated £280,000 to cover the costs of on-going life-sustaining treatment.

Please help us to raise the funds we need to give Tafida a chance to live. If she is not taken out of Royal London Hospital, her life would be brutally ended.

Here are a few facts about Tafida: she is not dying, she is not brain dead and nor does she have any underlying medical or genetic conditions. She has a sleep and wake cycle, she can feel pain, she is able to move her limbs, face, lips, mouth and head and she can track us with her eyes as we move around the room.

Please visit our “Save Tafida” Facebook page to see for yourself how our daughter is very much alive.

Her brain is not completely damaged and it is recognised that children have a terrific capacity for recovery from such injuries if they are given the time.

Tafida has full breathing drive, which is on the lowest setting, and she does not require any oxygen to be administered. We are convinced her breathing is improving.

Such signs of progress give us the confidence and the hope that she will make something of a recovery; she just needs to be given the time.

We want to give Tafida that time. Her life is precious. After a seven-month journey, we are united with Tafida in continuing to fight for her life.

Please help us to raise funds, and sign the petition http://chng.it/9cKPfgfv6Z to give Tafida a chance to live.
