Sylvester was handed into the vets around 4 months ago by local residents that were concerned for his well-being. We don’t know the ins and outs around his living situation but no one came forward to take ownership of him and we had to do something to try and help.
After thorough examination by the vets, they confirmed that Sylvester had a large abscess spreading beneath his scalp which needed urgent medical attention. On top of this, he had what is best described as burnt ear tips which the vets were concerned was early signs of cancer.
We were told Sylvester’s treatment was going to be expensive, which of course we agreed to. It consisted of his scalp being lifted and the infection removed. Alongside biopsies taken of the ear tips to check for cancer cells.
Fast forward four long months of round the clock care by one of our amazing fosterers, daily eye drops, medication and cone wearing and Sylvester is doing absolutely amazingly. We have avoided showing post operation photos as they are extremely distressing and we don’t want to upset anyone but please take our word for how well he has healed and what a complete transformation he’s had. The abscess has been completely removed and we are pleased to confirm he is cancer free!
But it doesn’t stop there. Due to the abscess being so large, Sylvester lost a large amount of skin during the operation which is why his eye is so far back and unable to be closed. The vets have advised us, despite everything, the eye is in full working order and they will be able to complete a second procedure which will take a skin graft from the back of his head to provide enough skin for him to be able to have full operational use of his eye again. We’ve been quoted around £5000 for this procedure, which, being a non profit charity isn’t an easy sum of money for us to come up with on top of what we’ve already paid, but we owe it to Sylvester to try!
I cannot begin to tell you how much he deserves this operation. He’s been through so much and not once has he grumbled, swiped or had an angry hiss. He is the most loveable little boy that knows we are doing everything in our power to help him. He has come so far and we are just so close to being able to give him back the life he so deserves. We would be so grateful if you can help us make this happen. The vets have estimated he is around 3 years old so he has so much life ahead of him and we want to be able to let him live that to its full capacity.
From the bottom of our hearts Thankyou. We know money is tight for everyone so we appreciate that it’s not an easy ask and if you can’t donate please may we ask you just share the page so we can spread his story far and wide? As that is just as valuable. We love you all so much and are so grateful to have you on our team.
