Save Sybil’s Southeast Home

I’m Rachel, Sybil’s neighbor, and I am raising funds to save her home from a tax sale.

Sybil, who was formerly unhoused/homeless, and works for StreetSense, lives in a house owned by a family member. The family member has always paid the taxes, but stopped paying them two years ago. A few weeks ago, the family member notified Sybil that she is responsible for the back taxes and penalties, amounting to $7,200. If Sybil does not come up with that money by July 18, the house goes up for tax sale.

Sybil recently got a new job, but her mental health is declining as a result of the stress she is under.

DC OTR declined Sybil’s request for a forbearance or abatement because she is not the homeowner, and the homeowner will not assist in any way.

The only way to keep this wonderful woman in her home, keep her housed, comfortable, and safe is to pay off the taxes.
