"Wescott's Rebellion," known affectionately as "Sweet Rebel," was born May 7, 2004 to "Sierra's Dancer," whom we had purchased at auction to save her from going to the stockyards and killed.  She was examined by Dr. Privet of Equicare Veterinary Hospital who told us she was pregnant. How joyful! "Sweet Rebel" was born that May at Wescott Acres!  Many people have watched him grow and mature over the past 15 years.

On Thursday, February 21st, Rebel suddenly collapsed in pain.  He rolled and rolled, desperately upset and hurting too much to stand.   His Veterinarian, Dr. Lari Hoback, assessed his condition as critical and in need of emergency care.

Rebel was immediately transported to the University of Georgia Veterinary Teaching Hospital in Athens, Georgia.  His doctor recommended immediate surgery for a tumor on his small intestine. The blood supply to his small  intestine had been cut off due to the tumor wrapping around that organ.

Rebel came through the surgery but is still graded as critical and continues to be in the Intensive Care Unit.  He had to have a second surgery last week due to inflammation of his small intestine.  He has also developed salmonella and has had to be transferred to an isolation area in the Intensive Care Unit.  His condition is improving daily,  but it is unknown how long he will need to remain at the hospital with continuous care.  He is beginning to be allowed to eat solid foods, so this is real progress!

At this point, his veterinary and hospital bills are nearing $20,000.  This unexpected but vital expense is beyond the capacity of Wescott Acres Rescue to cover with normal donations.  We are launching this GoFundMe page specifically to pay for the costs of Rebel's ongoing treatment at UGA.  Please support #savingsweetRebel by donating to this urgent cause.  Your prayers and healing thoughts are requested for our Rebel, as well as your financial gifts.  We want to give Rebel every chance to recover completely, and this means getting him the best care for as long as his medical condition requires.  All donations are tax-deductible, and any amount is very much appreciated!
