Greetings lovers of Sugarfoot Books!
We recently received the bad news that our rent is being doubled. As a small "analog" business in a world that is becoming increasingly digital we are essentially a break-even business. We're not in this for the money, we do it because we LOVE books and we LOVE bookstores but we cannot afford the rent increase.
The GOOD news is that there is a space available across the street, the old Postal Express space, right near Creekside and Flour Craft. Books go beautifully with coffee and beer. It is a light, bright and beautiful space. We plan to have author events and kids storytime. We would like to make it a community gathering spot that can continue to exist.
But we need help! In order to move, we will need to build a lot of new bookshelves, and hire extra help to move some of our unique items, such as the chandelier. As well as all the books! We will also be closed for a month while we move and still have wages to pay.
The reality of the situation is that If we can't raise funds to help with this move we will have to close our doors.
We are so grateful to our customers in this vibrant community of San Anselmo. Your loyalty to keeping a genuine brick and mortar independent bookstore in your community is what literally keeps our doors open. WE LOVE YOU!
At this time too, we are developing a brand new website to generate online sales of our books.
We are initiating this Go Fund Me campaign to help us through the move and into our next chapter. We thank you for all the support you already give us. And, right now we are asking for a little more help. Please consider the value that our store has to you, your family and kids and San Anselmo. We look forward to being here as long as possible!
