Who Stevie is

My name is Caroline, and I am writing with a mother’s heart that is breaking. My son Stevie is only 39 years old and the proud father of six beautiful Indigenous children, including two on the autism spectrum who especially need their father’s love and guidance. One of his daughters is still waiting for the birthday swim date her dad promised her - a tradition they shared every year. Their lives are deeply shaped by both their cultural traditions and Christian faith, which Stevie has worked hard to pass on to them.

To them, he is more than a dad - he’s their protector, their guide, their laughter and their connection to family, faith, and heritage. He is also my son, a brother, and a friend who has a big heart who has always stood by others. Now it is our turn to stand by him.

What Happened

Just a few weeks ago, Stevie suffered a sudden and devastating medical crisis. His kidneys and liver failed, and his body went into shock. He is now in the ICU, connected to machines that are keeping him alive while his body fights to heal.

Every day is a battle. His body has endured more than most could bear, yet he continues to hold on with a strength that inspires us. As his mother, I cannot describe the pain of watching my son lie in a hospital bed fighting for his life. No mother should ever have to watch her child suffer this way.

Why We Need Help

The cost of keeping Stevie alive and giving him the best chance at recovery is overwhelming. Our greatest hope is to transfer him to a hospital in the United States, where advanced treatment options may give him a real chance to heal. But this transfer comes with extraordinary costs — medical transport, specialized and the on going expenses of critical treatment.

As a family, we cannot carry this burden alone. The bills grow each day, and the urgency of his situation leaves us with no time to wait. Stevie deserves every opportunity to survive, not only for himself, but for his six children who need their father to be here to guide them as they grow.
